Bradken partners with circAlloy to advance sustainable materials innovation

Bradken is proud to be a major industry partner in the ARC Training Centre for Resource Efficient Alloys in a Circular Economy (circAlloy), a collaborative research initiative focused on developing the next generation of high-performance, sustainable materials for industry.
The five-year program brings together leading researchers from Deakin University, the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), The University of Melbourne and several other industry organisations to accelerate the development of advanced alloy technologies that improve material performance, increase resource efficiency and support circular economy outcomes.
As a key industry partner, Bradken will contribute its expertise in materials engineering and application development across a range of research projects focused on wear-resistant materials, advanced casting technologies and next-generation materials for demanding industrial environments.
According to Mehdi Taherishargh, Bradken Technology Manager for Materials Development (pictured above), the partnership is an important opportunity to combine industry experience with world-class research capability to push the boundaries of wear-resistant materials, challenge conventional solutions and, where needed, rethink traditional approaches.
"Our customers operate in some of the world's most demanding environments, and they're looking for solutions that deliver both performance and sustainability outcomes," said Dr Taherishargh.
"Through circAlloy, we're combining industry experience with leading research capability to develop the next generation of materials that can help improve reliability, extend component life and support more resource-efficient operations."
The collaboration builds on Bradken's successful involvement in previous ARC-supported research programs, including mineAlloy, which contributed to improvements in our proprietary Duralloy and Duracast material specifications, the development of the DuracastA white iron range and several other promising technologies currently progressing through field trials and scale-up activities.
Through circAlloy, Bradken and its research partners will continue to optimise and advance technologies developed through these earlier collaborations, while also exploring new materials innovation opportunities.
For Bradken's mining customers, these advancements have the potential to deliver more durable, reliable and sustainable materials that help maximise equipment performance in some of the world's toughest operating environments.
"Across the program, the focus is on applying new approaches in metallurgy and manufacturing to unlock greater efficiency and resource stewardship throughout a material's lifecycle," Dr Taherishargh said.
"The collaboration gives us an opportunity to translate research into practical applications that can deliver long-term value for both our customers and the broader resources industry."
